6 of Cups – Roots

6 of Cups Wild Unknown TarotThis card is traditionally associated with childhood and the accompanying nostalgia of remembering innocent moments of childhood. I love this sweet mind state, and I like to think of it as a chance to acknowledge the inner magical child.

As we go through daily life, we often float on the surface of things. We take people and events at face value, and we forget about all those amazing roots that grow so deep under the surface of every being we encounter.

Behind everything we present to the world, there are stories and layers and deep connections that we can barely conceive of. This is easy to project on other people but let’s first focus on our own gorgeous roots.

We all have a past. We all have stories about who we are and where we come from. Some of us have painful stories and memories that prevent us from celebrating our roots. All roots are powerful, they all do the work of feeding our souls exactly what we need to grow into what we are. Perhaps our roots have had to dig deep through rocks and sand to find nutrients and nourishment. Some of our roots have had to burrow through concrete! Isn’t it amazing that we survive despite harsh conditions? This is something to celebrate. Of course, some of us have been well nurtured with care and nutrient-rich dirt. Most of us have some kind of combination of many different conditions. Our roots are to be honored for what they are, and for making our lives possible.

The 6 is a very harmonious and lovely number which speaks of good and positive feelings and experiences. The realm of cups is the realm of emotion. The 6 of Cups is meant to feel good. Celebrate your roots! Celebrate your growth! Love who you are and nurture yourself. You may have passed through childhood, but there is always a child inside of you wanting to be acknowledged.

Childhood innocence and love is for everyone. Take your roots out for ice cream.

Grounding Meditation:

First things first – lets breathe. Let go of thoughts and of thinking. Do this until you feel calm.

Stand or sit with feet flat on the floor. Feel them tingle. They are so alive and full of energy!

Imagine roots are growing from the bottom of your feet, deep into the ground. Feel them multiply and glow and search deeper for room to expand their reach.

Breathe.

Let go of thoughts and of thinking.

Suck some juices up through the roots into your above ground being. Feel the energy of the earth fill you with peace, calm, trust, whatever you need.

Breathe.

Thank the Earth for holding you and connecting you to all that is.
